Publishing Administration
Publishing administration registers your compositions worldwide and collects their royalties for you — without taking ownership of your songs.
A publishing administrator handles the paperwork of the composition side: registering your songs with PROs, mechanical-rights organizations, and collection societies around the world, then collecting and forwarding the royalties — usually for a small fee and, crucially, without acquiring any share of your copyright.
It's different from a traditional publishing deal, where a publisher takes a cut of ownership. Notes provides publishing administration as part of the platform, with no percentage taken.
Good to know
Publishing Administration: common questions
- Does a publishing administrator own my songs?
- No. Administration registers and collects on your behalf without acquiring copyright — you keep your songs.
- Do I still need a distributor?
- Usually yes. Administration covers the composition (publishing) side; a distributor covers the recording (master) side. Notes does both.
