Music Distribution
Music distribution delivers your recordings to streaming platforms and stores and collects the recording royalties they generate.
A distributor delivers your master recordings to DSPs and stores — Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and 50+ others — with credits and ISRCs attached, then collects the recording revenue those plays generate and pays it to the artist or label.
Distribution only covers the recording side, so on its own it leaves publishing (composition) royalties uncollected. Notes pairs distribution with publishing administration and royalty collection so every side is handled.
Good to know
Music Distribution: common questions
- What does a distributor not collect?
- Composition/publishing royalties (performance and mechanical) and, often, neighboring/digital-performance royalties. Those need a publisher/administrator and SoundExchange — Notes handles them alongside distribution.
